The process

Six stages, three fittings, about ten weeks.

Need it for a date? Tell us at the consultation. We can usually work to eight weeks for a wedding if the cloth is in stock.

Week 1

Consultation and measuring

45 minutes

About 45 minutes in the fitting room. We talk about what the suit is for and how you like to wear it, take over 25 measurements and note how you stand.

Week 1

Choosing the cloth

Same visit

Go through the cloth books with us and take swatches home if you like. We’ll suggest a weight for when and where you’ll wear it.

Weeks 2 to 3

Cutting your pattern

In the workroom

Nell drafts your pattern by hand on brown paper and cuts the cloth. The pattern stays on file for the next suit.

Week 4

Baste fitting

30 minutes

The first try-on, in canvas and white tacking thread. This is where the shoulders, chest and balance are set.

Week 7

Forward fitting

30 minutes

Nearly finished, with the sleeves and trouser hems left open so the lengths can be pinned on you.

Weeks 9 to 10

Finishing and collection

Collect

Buttonholes, pressing and a final try-on. If anything needs a touch more, we do it before you take it home.
